Suburban Utopia, An Infertile Place (SU4IP)
Lyndon Watkinson

Lyndon Watkinson (1999) is an artist, designer, writer, and musician based in Sheffield, UK. Democratising art and art context through artworks, publications, graphic design, articles, and sound. Creative director and founder of the online arts organisation SU4IP. His work is characterised by a desire for precision, often depicting aesthetics that celebrate and criticise the absurdity of corporatized identity, calling into question the necessity of creating false exteriors when what is not seen is often just as important.

In late 2020, a blog post entitled Suburban Utopia, An Infertile Place formed part of the wider inquiry and development of his practice for his bachelor's degree in fine art. As his work matured, he applied this term as a formalisation of his creative endeavours, later abbreviating it to SU4IP, now used as a digital alias and publishing entity.

About
“Noir” - Artist Book by SU4IP

Feelings of darkness are an inevitability in day-to-day life and an essential component of the human condition. Despite its negative connotations, an absence of light is an anchor point of our sensibility, refining our ability to detect the positivity or negativity of a thought, situation, or experience.

Without it, our perception of what is good and what is bad would be skewed, disabling our better judgement and amplifying strife when difficulties emerge.

Humans are diurnal creatures that thrive during the daytime, utilising nights in between to recharge and process memories. We engage with physical and emotional darkness in times of sadness, isolation, or fear, allowing us to investigate adversity and hypothesise new ways of overcoming it. Art continues to act as a medium for this to take place; “Noir” – Artist Book by SU4IP is a wiro-bound exhibition celebrating the potential of art practice as a conduit of darkness.

I warmly invite you to browse this profound collection. I sincerely hope that you enjoy engaging with this publication as much as I did creating it, as well as collaborating alongside so many wonderful individuals.
