Suburban Utopia, An Infertile Place (SU4IP)
Lyndon Watkinson
Lyndon Watkinson (1999) is an artist, designer, writer, and musician based in Sheffield, UK. Democratising art and art context through artworks, publications, graphic design, articles, and sound. Creative director and founder of the online arts organisation SU4IP. His work is characterised by a desire for precision, often depicting aesthetics that celebrate and criticise the absurdity of corporatized identity, calling into question the necessity of creating false exteriors when what is not seen is often just as important.
In late 2020, a blog post entitled Suburban Utopia, An Infertile Place formed part of the wider inquiry and development of his practice for his bachelor's degree in fine art. As his work matured, he applied this term as a formalisation of his creative endeavours, later abbreviating it to SU4IP, now used as a digital alias and publishing entity.

Arranged in a way to suggest an accumulation of credits or achievements, this piece unifies the elements from my research with the subject matter of the body of work.
︎ The Kindred of the Kibbo Kift was founded in 1920 with the intention of creating world peace through the means of handicrafts, hiking, and camping. Communal and outdoor activities were their means of dismantling the rise of nationalism throughout the interwar period. It was divided into 3 groups, all three heavily associated with the work and teachings of John Hargrave.I am attracted to this movement due to its heavy stylism and use of almost nationalistic symbols. So far, my work has been exclusively contained within flag formats, yet considering this, I can communicate in almost any form.
Continuing the theme of packaging, this cardboard box from SOUS CHEF fell right into place with what I was interested in, more specifically regarding the Kindred of the Kibbo Kift. I began colouring in the Sous Chef logo with the same colour palette as that of the Kindred of the Kibbo Kift logo. I then began to create a sort of contact sheet along the unfolded cardboard box, in a similar way to how the lodge sigils were laid out.
